Project Launching Conference
“RESTORATION OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS IN THE ŞONTEA-FORTUNA AREA- COMPONENT OF NATURA 2000 SITES ROSPA0031 AND ROSCI0065 OF THE DANUBE DELTA BIOSPHERE RESERVE” [RESTORATION-DD].
Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development, Tulcea (DDNI), as Project Promoter, announces the launching conference of the project ” RESTORATION OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS INN THE ŞONTEA-FORTUNA AREA- COMPONENT OF NATURA 2000 SITES ROSPA0031 AND ROSCI0065 OF THE DANUBE DELTA BIOSPHERE RESERVE”, which will take place on 09.07.2015, at 11:00 am, ESPLANADA hotel in Tulcea town, Tulcea County, 1 Portului Street.
The project is funded under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism -EEA Grants 2009–2014, RO02 Program – “Biodiversity and ecosystem services” with a non-refundable amount of 1,556,177 Euro. The total value of the project is 1,564,291 Euro.
The overall objective of the project is to restore the Şontea-Fortuna area fragmented wetland ecosystems, part of Natura 2000 sites in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, to halt the decline of biodiversity in these ecosystems.
The Program Operator is the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests.
The project runs within 19.05.2015 – 30.04.2016, in partnership with the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, NINA, NORWAY and the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve – the beneficiary of the investment resulting from this project.
The main action foreseen in the project is the execution of hydrotechnical works for secondary channels dredging on a length of 13,560 m, as follows: Trofilca channel, Periteaşca and Draghilea. These works aimed at restoring aquatic habitat connectivity and migration routes of wild aquatic species (for their feeding, breeding, spawning, etc) to the main canal network, especially, in the Danube low water levels conditions.
There are invited to participate in the event project partners, representatives of the target groups, local public authorities from Tulcea municipality and localities from the Danube Delta (areas where the project works are implemented), the competent authority for environmental protection and water management, media representatives.
Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development is a public institution under the jurisdiction of the EDUCATION AND SCIENTIFIC RESEACH MINISTRY /NATIONAL AUTHORITY FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND INNOVATION. Its main activity is fundamental and applied research as scientific support in implementing the objectives of restoring degraded ecosystems from Natura 2000 sites which cover the entire protected area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, in order to rebuild and improve the conservation status of fragmented habitats and reduce the biodiversity decline.
