About “Restoration of aquatic ecosystems in the Șontea-Fortuna area-component of Natura 2000 sites ROSPA0031 and ROSCI0065 of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve” [RESTORATION-DD]
On the 28th of July 2010, the Agreement between European Union, Island, Liechtenstein and Norway for the EEA Grants 2009 – 2014 was signed.
Through this agreement, Romania benefits of financial assistance granted by the countries from the European Economic Area for assisting the economic growth and help for sustainable development through the EEA Grants 2009-2014.
Following the negotiations between Romania and the representative of the Donor States, the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests was designated as the Program Operator for the Program RO02 BIODIVERSITY and ECOSYSTEMS SERVICES.
The project “Restoration of aquatic ecosystems in the Sontea-Fortuna area-component of Natura 2000 sites ROSPA0031 and ROSCI0065 of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve” [RESTORATION-DD] is financed through the EEA Grants 2009-2014, Program Area Ro02 – Biodiversity and Ecosystems Servicies, Call for proposals no. 3: “Large Ecosystems Restoration Scheme”.
The project is a partnership between Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development, Tulcea (DDNI) as the Project Promoter, Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) as Project Partner 1, and Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority, Tulcea (DDBRA) as Project Partner 2.
The main objective of the project is the ecological restoration of wetland fragmented ecosystems within the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve’s Natura 2000 sites for halting these ecosystems biodiversity decline.
The main project benefits:
O1. Improvement of wetland fragmented ecosystems status within the Șontea-Fortuna protected areas from the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.
O2. Public awareness on wetland ecosystems services and the importance of conserving their favourable conditions.
O3. Development of an international scientific partnership related to ecological restoration of protected wetland ecosystems.
Project duration: 23 months, within 19 May 2015 – 30 April 2017.
Total eligible value of the project: 1,556,177 EURO.
